I discovered that users were getting error messages when trying to upload their photos (or as the system calls them: avatars) to the site. I have fixed this and increased the allowable file size and max height/width for the photos so they are so incredibly small. Let me know if page load times become a problem for users on slow connections, please.
Registered users can upload their own photo/avatar by clicking on "Profile" and then scrolling down to the Avatar section and following the directions.
