Here's one from 1965. Unfortunately, he did not see that his immigration act would ruin the country or that his stealing from social security individual accounts would lead to a world growth only economy. Both of these things have put the entire Earth Biosphere on a course towards GTE.

LBJ's climate warning 50 years ago - do we have your attention yet?

Posted on 18 February 2015 by Glenn Tamblyn

"An old saying in marketing and communications says: ‘Repeat it, and repeat it, and repeat it again. When you are tired of repeating it, people might just start to take notice’. Sometimes this can seem oh too true. Particularly where warnings about unexpected dangers are concerned.

In 1951 U.S. President Harry Truman established the Science Advisory Committee as part of the U.S. Office of Defense Mobilization. After the launch of Sputnik in 1957 President Eisenhower renamed it the President’s Science Advisory Committee and moved it into the White House.

The committee wrote many reports for U.S. presidents, often on defense issues. But they also produced a large report – ‘Restoring The Quality of Our Environment’ – tackling a wide range of environmental and pollution problems of the time.
Some of the insights in the report are resonant today

‘Within a few short centuries, we are returning to the air a significant part of the carbon that was extracted by plants and buried in the sediments during half a billion years’

‘Through his worldwide industrial civilization, Man is unwittingly conducting a vast geophysical experiment. Within a few generations he is burning the fossil fuels that slowly accumulated in the earth over the past 500 million years’

‘By the year 2000 the increase in CO2 will be close to 25%. This may be sufficient to produce measurable and perhaps marked changes in climate.’

‘The climate changes that may be produced by the increased CO2 content could be deleterious from the point of view of human beings.’

The report was far more circumspect than reports we would read today but still covered many familiar subjects. In addition to the possibility of warming air temperatures the report discussed issues such as the melting of the Antarctic ice cap, rising sea levels, less carbon in the soil, warming of the oceans and resultant carbon dioxide ‘outgassing’.

It even covered a what-if scenario; what if we need to find a way to cool the earth?

‘The possibilities of deliberately bringing about countervailing climatic changes therefore need to be thoroughly explored…for example by spreading very small reflecting particles over large oceanic areas’

They foresaw, half a century ago, the need for research that is currently being undertaken into ‘geoengineering’ to look for ways to artificially cool the earth if we don’t control our CO2 emissions."

I guess even then, the amount of trees that needed to be planted yearly was too high. Now it is up to 1388 apiece per year!!! #-o
The only geoengineering left that may work is forcing the eruption of one or two super-volcanoes that may be susceptible to drilled nuclear devices around the bottom of the magma chamber, or a bunker busting type that could penetrate to near the bottom of the magma. Like Fat Man and Little Boy to stop GTE. 120 MGT for each.

Interesting. My impression is they had also worked out the roughly 3 deg. C of warming for every doubling of CO2 well before 1965. Avoidance of climate reality has been the order of the day for a long time. And they have had a lot longer to digest the Malthusian problem and yet show the same denialist mentality to this day that they exhibit toward AGW.

Documents Reveal Fossil Fuel Fingerprints on Contrarian Climate Research
Scientist Willie Soon calls his papers 'deliverables' to fossil fuel executives, and grants a big coal utility pre-publication review and anonymity.

By David Hasemyer, InsideClimate News Feb 21, 2015
(excerpt)"After finishing a study contending that solar activity is increasing global warming, scientist Willie Soon of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics reported his news to a utility company that was a major funder of his work.
The communications show that Soon called his peer-reviewed research papers "deliverables" in return for funding from fossil fuel companies. In addition, the documents reveal that Soon and Harvard-Smithsonian gave the coal utility company the right to review his scientific papers and make suggestions before they were published. Soon and Harvard-Smithsonian also pledged not to disclose Southern’s role as a funder without permission."

A melting Arctic and weird weather: the plot thickens

Posted on 20 February 2015 by Guest Author

By Jennifer Francis, Rutgers University

"Everyone loves to talk about the weather, and this winter Mother Nature has served up a feast to chew on. Few parts of the US have been spared her wrath.

Severe drought and abnormally warm conditions continue in the west, with the first-ever rain-free January in San Francisco; bitter cold hangs tough over the upper Midwest and Northeast; and New England is being buried by a seemingly endless string of snowy nor’easters.

Yes, droughts, cold and snowstorms have happened before, but the persistence of this pattern over North America is starting to raise eyebrows. Is climate change at work here?

Wavier jet stream

One thing we do know is that the polar jet stream – a fast river of wind up where jets fly that circumnavigates the northern hemisphere – has been doing some odd things in recent years.

Rather than circling in a relatively straight path, the jet stream has meandered more in north-south waves. In the west, it’s been bulging northward, arguably since December 2013 – a pattern dubbed the “Ridiculously Resilient Ridge” by meteorologists. In the east, we’ve seen its southern-dipping counterpart, which I call the “Terribly Tenacious Trough.” (See picture, below.)"

Having lived then and not known the BS, LBJ started the growth only economy and unlimited low IQ/non-historic US immigration of over-breeding consumers. He was not really smart enough to see ahead that well, and only Nixon addressed Congress on the overpopulation problems of the USA.
Basically, LBJ screwed the US and the world. The corporate/corrupt government/military industrial complex was put in place on his watch. Like Carter later, he ignored the scientific advice on population. Then it got worse with Reagan, the Bushes and Clinton/Obama.
Even Obama's 130 IQ does not register that blowing Yellowstone is the best thing to do for humanity and most other species. It must take 138 to understand, along with real multiple disciplinary science education.
The thing is, with real leadership, this never had to get to the point it is at with overpopulation and pollution, to the trajectory of GTE.

Or could it be that Obama's focus is not on overpopulation itself that why he seems don't see it.

If he can't multi-task, get out of the kitchen! Maybe 'bama has extreme fear which causes tunnel vision. He should, being guilty of high treason to the majority of Americans! I say again;

The majority of Americans voted for Obama for President, so there is no way to stretch that to the majority believing the high treason BS.

Toba worked 74,600 years ago to cool the planet 10*F for 10 years and reduce the human population at the time to 1/1000th. Obviously, that would only be half enough to stop the heat in momentum. Another thing is you are right, compression detonation both from the lower center and around the bottom of a large magma chamber must also be assisted by upward pressure from the mantle. So blowing them probably as a last resort, would most likely NOT work to stop GTE. About the only other chance is if God makes a miracle to save our biosphere.
A nuclear winter would irradiate the planet to most species dying, so trying to limit a nuclear war is not very good either. Iron filings into the oceans hasn't worked and neither have expanded contrails, whether by man or by the increased humidity of AGW so far. Putting a giant shade of foil into geosynchronous orbit in also only a pipe dream with little real possibility for the size needed. Perhaps, a large enough asteroid moved a little....
Anyway;
Robert Swan Leads Antarctic Expedition to Show Firsthand Effects of Climate Change

Cole Mellino | March 4, 2015

"Robert Swan is a “polar explorer, environmentalist and the first man ever to walk unsupported to both the North and South Poles,” according to his site 2041. Swan walked to the South Pole in 1984 and the North Pole in 1989. Since then, he has traveled to Antarctica 35 times. His journeys inspired him to launch 2041 to protect Antarctica. The name comes from the date when the world’s moratoriums on mining and drilling in Antarctica will expire. Its mission is “to build personal leadership skills among people who choose to embrace the challenge of sustaining all forms of life—in their families, communities, organizations and the planet.”
robertswan650 ("The Greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it.")
Next week, he and his 2041 team will journey to the last great wilderness on Earth. The International Antarctic Expedition 2015 will bring together people from around the world to “debate, discuss and determine firsthand the effects of climate change.” The team will assess the effects of temperature rise on Antarctica and, upon return, the team plans to educate the public and hopefully spur action on climate change."
