A physical barrier along the border between the United States and Mexico has existed for several years. The Secure Fence Act of 2006, a response to security concerns following the attacks of September 11, established hundreds of miles of barrier between the two countries. President Trump has made clear his plans to improve upon and expand the existing barrier design by constructing hundreds of additional miles of wall. Through the pursuit of border security, wildlife along the border region will suffer through habitat fragmentation. Regardless of whether President Trump is successful, the fence as it exists today has been proven to damage wildlife. Further expansion will only worsen the damage to wildlife. A proven solution to habitat fragmentation is the construction of wildlife corridors, allowing wildlife access to migratory paths and precious water supplies otherwise cut off by the border wall. Wildlife corridors, accompanied by surveillance technologies to monitor illegal activity, should be considered as part of the existing and future design. |

I would rather see a 100 yard wide human only dead zone with helicopter gunship, military and civilian patrols. Over 22 trillion in debt and the fines owed by scofflaw violators of Title8USC1324-5 and a few other laws is at least 2 quintillion 400 billion owed. Enforce the laws and we get out of debt and pay for infrastructural changes to a non-emissions, steady state environmental economy, massive population reduction and educational campaign on ecology, and an "Eisenhower Sweep" to boot out the 40 million illegals and while we are at it, get rid of moslems and other domestic enemies. |
