When you think of Mexico, you think of tequila and guacamole, says Scott Munguia. If he has his way, you might also be thinking of something else made from the avocado: plastic made from the seed. This could be big for Mexico, Avocado seeds pile up in Mexico like nowhere else in the world, and most end up being burned at landfill sites. Now has used them to make plastics that biodegrade in just 240 days. Do you think it could be scaled up worldwide? or are avocados just too small a crop to use? can this have an impact on lowering future plastic pollution? There's pictures and video in this article below: |

This is a really neat idea and I was hoping to read more on it but the link doesn't work?! Suppose I'll see if the technology has progressed with my google fu. |

I don't know if I agree with making the disposable items in that picture out of anything. You can wash and reuse a stainless cutlery item for decades. I don't use plastic cutlery, paper cups, or paper plates. If I go to a restaurant, I'll ask for something else and many times I'll get it. I know the disposable society is both convenient for the consumer and ultra-profitable for the manufacturer, but I try to limit what I use in order to reduce what I dispose of. |
